Monitoring Bird Migrations Through Alabama
Deep in the woodlands of Alabama, there’s a field station monitoring the amazing passage of Neotropical birds migrating from Central and South America. Far from human eyes, in the dark of night, birds swarm over this place. Unbeknown to them, a high tower receives signals that feed their distinctive calls into a computer monitor system for human eyes to decipher. What a pleasure and an honor to be invited to the Green Ribbon Schools Award ceremony sponsored by the Alabama State Department of Education! As the awards were presented it was so heartwarming and heartening to learn how conservation organizations, schools, and teachers, working together, can make our communities healthier and more beautiful for all. Three schools and one school district won the Alabama Green Ribbon Schools Award. Read More...
